Shri V.S.Chellam was the pioneer of the soap industry in Tamil Nadu. He rose to become the largest manufacturer of soaps in South India from a very modest start. He was the founder of V.S.Chellam soap factory, started in the year 1938.Now celebrating its 75-th year. In celebration of his centenary year the hall has been dedicated to the stalwart Shri V.S.Chellam. He was also a follower of Mahatma Gandhi and followed the principles of simple living and self sufficient India.

Shri V.S.Chellam Century hall, one of the best Marriage Halls In Madurai, formerly known as V.S.Chellam Sundara Meenakshi Thirumana Mandapam has been completely renovated into a modern wedding hall in Madurai with all amenities.
